The bedroom flooring question has a clearer answer than most people expect — but it depends on what you're optimizing for.
The Case for Carpet in Bedrooms
Carpet is warmer underfoot when you step out of bed. It's quieter — both for sound absorption within the room and for footstep sound transmission to rooms below. It's softer if a child falls. And in a bedroom, where a floor primarily gets walked on barefoot or in socks, durability isn't a major concern. A good nylon carpet in a bedroom can last 15–20 years with normal care.
The Case for Hardwood
Hardwood in bedrooms reads as higher quality on a listing. It's easier to clean (relevant for allergy sufferers). And for homeowners who want consistent flooring throughout the house, the alternative to hardwood in the bedroom is a transition strip — which some people love and some people dislike.
What Most Eastside Homeowners Are Choosing
Based on what we see in our estimates: hardwood throughout the main floor, hardwood in the master bedroom, and carpet in secondary bedrooms and bonus rooms. The master bedroom gets the hardwood treatment because of listing presentation; secondary bedrooms get the comfort of carpet. This is the combination we recommend most often.
