If you've had hardwood floors refinished before, you probably remember the dust. Fine sanding dust on every surface in the house, in closets, in the HVAC ducts, coating furniture in rooms three rooms away. That's the old way. Dustless refinishing is how this job should be done.
What Makes It Dustless
Dustless sanding equipment uses a belt or drum sander connected directly to a HEPA-filtered vacuum containment system. Rather than sanding dust becoming airborne and settling throughout the house, it's captured at the source — over 99% of the dust is collected before it can reach your home's air. The process is otherwise identical to traditional refinishing.
Why It Matters in an Occupied Home
Sanding dust is extraordinarily fine and settles everywhere — in HVAC ductwork where it recirculates for weeks, on surfaces in adjacent rooms, inside electronics. In a home with children, pets, or anyone with respiratory sensitivity, this is a genuine health concern, not just an inconvenience. Dustless refinishing eliminates this.
The Refinishing Process
Full sand and refinish removes scratches, dents, and old finish down to bare wood, allowing for stain color changes. Screen and recoat is a lighter abrasion of the existing finish with a new topcoat — appropriate when the floor is in good overall condition but looks dull or worn. Both processes benefit equally from dustless technique.
